Iran Freedom March In Washington Draws Large Crowd, Calls For Regime Change

The National Council for Resistance of Iran, the political arm of the People's Mujahadeen of Iran, along with supporters staged an Iran Freedom March in Washington, D.C. on International Women's Day, March 8th. An estimated 2,000 people shut down main thoroughfares in the nation's capital to call for regime change in Iran.

The NCRI’s charismatic President-elect, Maryam Rajavi, sent a video message to eager listeners. As a woman leading one of the Middle East’s most organized opposition movements for democracy, she commemorated International Women’s Day and appealed to the international community to “respect the struggle of the Iranian people to overthrow the clerical regime," described a statement released by the NCRI.

“The historic destiny of the Iranian people in their battle for liberation will be decided with the resistance units and rebel cities,” Rajavi said, adding, “Yes, change in Iran without being organized is impossible. Change in Iran without sacrifice is impossible. They are the source of the endurance and prosperity of the organized resistance of the Iranian people inside Iran. And they are the reason those pretenders who neither want nor can afford to pay the price of freedom lack all credibility and fail.”

Several American dignitaries spoke at the event including Congresswomen Sheila Jackson Lee, Congressman Brad Sherman, Linda Chavez - senior official in Reagan and Bush administrations, and Ambassador Adam Ereli.

Iranians came from over 40 states to participate in the march.
