UK Immigration Minister – Migrants Should No Longer Be Housed In Hotels To Deter ‘Asylum Shopping’

The UK’s Immigration Minister, Robert Jenrick, wrote in the Sunday Telegraph that the country “has an obligation to provide sanctuary to some of the many who flee war and persecution,” but added that the UK’s support is being “abused” by illegal migrants who are “skipping the queue in small boat crossings.” In an effort to deter the soaring number of illegal immigrants arriving in the UK via small boats, Jenrick says that the UK should house migrants in “simple, functional” spaces instead of in the luxury hotels they have been housed in which has led to a recent rise in “asylum shopping” on the part of the immigrants.
