    England Goes Woke - London Police Recruit Illiterate Officers To Meet Diversity Quotas

    A 2014 promise to have 40% of the London Metropolitan Police force be represented by ethnic minorities by 2023 is backfiring. The Metropolitan police are recruiting officers who are illiterate, have criminal records, and can barely write in English in an effort to meet the quota on time. Currently, just 17% of the force is considered from "diverse" backgrounds.

    The head of the organization responsible for inspecting British police, Matt Parr, said in an interview with the Telegraph that London, "which will likely be a minority white city in the next decade or so, should not be policed by an overwhelmingly white police force."

    According to Parr, not only are the optics of a mostly white police force inappropriate but it is also, "operationally wrong, because it means that the Met does not get insight into some of the communities it polices and that has caused problems in the past. So we completely support the drive to make the Met much more representative of the community it serves than it is at the moment."

    Despite allegedly supporting the move to drastically diversify the Met police force, Parr added, "They are taking in significant numbers of people who are, on paper at least, functionally illiterate in English," and concluded that the Met was "recruiting the wrong people" and that the diversity quota had "lowered standards" for the force.

    While criticizing the Met for its hiring of illiterate recruits in one breath, in the next breath Parr argued that it was a good thing for the Met to be "taking a risk" by hiring young black men, some of whom have criminal records.

    A former Metropolitan Police officer and the head of the think tank Policy Exchange, David Spencer, argued that the diversity initiative has lowered standards for the force saying, "There is a tension between volume, quality and diversity and something has to give."

    "Someone has to ask what is the most important of those three things and you have to be really careful because once you have recruited someone they are possibly going to be there for the next 30 years," Spencer concluded.

    The diversity push comes as the Met is already stretched so thin in London that major department stores no longer call them when shoplifting occurs.

    Meanwhile, Scotland Yard has a humiliating 0.5% success rate in solving car thefts in London with only 227 of 55,000 cases being solved.

    However, there are still enough resources to allow the handful of literate officers on the force to march in local pride parades.
