The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan requested that Kosovo’sPrime Minister Albin Kurti reconsider the issue of the embassy being located in Jerusalem.

In his congratulating letter to Kurti, Erdogan pointed out the issue of Kosovo’s embassy in Israel saying that “as I know you also have concerns” about it not being located in Tel Aviv.

“I think it would be useful for your government to review this issue within the framework of the relevant UN resolutions and international law,” reads Erdogan’s letter.

In early February, Kosovo and Israel established diplomatic relations, based on the agreement reached on September 4 in Washington where Kosovo and Serbia signed pledges at the White House to normalize economic relations.

Kosovo’s document included mutual recognition with Israel and the opening of its embassy in Jerusalem, while Serbia also vowed to move its embassy to Jerusalem, which is still not clear if and when it will happen.

Following the opening of the embassy in Jerusalem, Kosovo was criticized by the European Union, as all the embassies of the EU member states are located in Tel Aviv.
