    Birx Bows To Pelosi

After reports emerged Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi had harsh words for Dr. Birx while in a meeting with Secretary Mnuchin and Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, Birx appeared on CNN where she said the virus is now “different” and “extraordinarily widespread.”  Birx, the Coronavirus Task Force coordinator, gave a somber interview for one of Trump’s least favorite news outlets, and the president is not happy about it.

In a tweet today, President Trump said Birx new warning is because she is caving to Pelosi, who reportedly said “Dr. Birx is the worst.”  President Trump wrote, "So Crazy Nancy Pelosi said horrible things about Dr. Deborah Birx, going after her because she was too positive on the very good job we are doing on combatting the China Virus, including Vaccines & Therapeutics. In order to counter Nancy, Deborah took the bait & hit us. Pathetic!"

Pelosi said in an interview with ABC following her reported statement, “I think the president is spending-spreading disinformation about the virus and she is his - she is his appointee.  So I don’t have confidence, no.”

But in Birx’ interview with CNN, she said she has “tremendous respect” for Speaker Pelosi.  Birx defended herself also against a New York Times article that said she was too optimistic about the virus, telling CNN, “This was not a pollyannish view. I’ve never been called pollyannish, or non-scientific, or non-data driven. I will stake my 40-year career on those fundamental principles of using data to implement better programs and save lives."

President Trump has split with Dr. Fauci over the past few weeks, who works hand in hand with Dr. Birx.  Birx has noticeably changed her tune since Pelosi’s remarks, and along with Fauci, is being much more sympathetic to the Democrat’s complaints towards the Trump administration’s handling of the virus. Birx said the death toll depends on how the Midwestern states handle the virus.  While the Trump administration has taken steps to slow the spread, and Trump has now encouraged Americans to wear masks, the virus and the government’s forced closure of the economy has become controversial.  The nation’s two top doctors on the pandemic, Fauci and Birx, have become more prominent political voices through interviews and contradictory statements to the president, but continue to express they are neutral.
