Senate Judiciary Committee’s top Democrat, Senator Feinstein, formally wrote a letter to Chairman Lindsey Graham requesting to delay the October 12th confirmation process.
Feinstein wrote, “The timeline for consideration of Judge Barrett’s nomination is incompatible with the Senate’s constitutional role. We again urge you to delay consideration of this nomination until after the presidential inauguration. The Senate and the American public deserve a deliberative, thorough process, and this falls far short.”
She continued, "This timeline is a sharp departure from past practice. Even more, it undercuts the Senate’s ability to fulfill its advice and consent role and deprives the American people of a meaningful opportunity to gauge the nominee and her record for themselves."
But for Graham, he believes there is ample time to confirm her to the court, especially because Barrett already received a bipartisan vote to serve on the 7th Circuit Court. Graham said, "The question for the country is, is [Judge Barrett] ready to be promoted? I think the answer is yes. I think she’s done everything anybody could hope a nominee for the Supreme Court would do in their life. I think [Judge Barrett] is one of the most qualified people to ever be nominated to the Supreme Court.
Barrett has unanimous support from the Senate Republicans, who have touted her judicial record. Furthermore, she has already turned in her 65-page questionnaire on her professional and legal career, as well as hundreds of pages of her legal writings and opinions.
Democrats have argued that while it is an election year, the confirmation process should wait until after the election. Biden spoke about it at the debate, saying that the people should decide. But Trump pointed out in the debate that the people did decide, because he is still president.

The American people don't need to "gauge" the nominee. We did that when we elected Donald Trump. The Senate's role is to advise and consent, not delay and obfuscate.

The democrats are shameless and the sorest of sore losers in the history of losing. They should be better at it now, wouldn't you think? Oh well, they'll get another opportunity to be graceful losers again in 30 some odd days. I'm guessing they won't take that opportunity to become more gracious.
No where has the American people decided who would be the Supreme Court nominee. We elect presidents to do that. And we elect senators to make the decision. No one has ever in my 72 years on earth asked me who I would nominate. Nor should they, I voted for a very intelligent President to make the nomination. Now Feinstein do you damned job. If you would like, just bring it to a vote and don't say anything. We the AMERICAN PEOPLE already know how you and every democrat on the committee will vote, so just vote "NO" and quit acting like we are stupid.
The hearing should proceed on Oct. 12, with all present, both sides of the aisle. Give each Senator an alloted amount of time to speak or question Judge Barrett. Then shut them off when they go for the grandstanding the dems will surely try. Just shut 'em up and move on to the next Senator.
The dems won't like it, but then they don't like anything about this nomination anyway.
Or, better yet, hold no hearing, go to floor vote and swear her in immediately following the vote.

The hearings do not begin until Oct. 12 to give the Judiciary Committee time to asses Judge Barrett's qualifications. Since the Democrats do not even want to meet with Judge Barrett let's get the hearings started now.
Guess they forgot how they didn't let the republicans participate in their impeachment circus. They weren't allowed to ask questions or do anything. So, avoid the circus, sit down, shut up and cast your no vote (no amount of questioning will change their vote) and move on with the republicans voting yes.
