A group of Catholic students and their parents are now considering taking legal action against the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum after a security guard kicked the group of students out of the museum for wearing pro-life beanies inside.

On January 20, the students visited the mueseum after attending the March for Life Rally. Upon entering the museaum the students were asked to remove their pro-life hats and were proptly kicked out when they refused.

According to one parent's Twitter post, her daughter and the other students were wearing beanies in order to identify one another in the museum. However, the security officer did not accept the students' reason for wearing the hats and had them removed from the building.

Religous or political discrimination is suspected on the part of the security guard. The woman who made the Twitter post also noted that a woman wearing a pride mask was allowed to stay in the museum while the students were forced to leave.

Regarding the incident with the students, a spokesperson for the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum responded to the situation in an email saying, "Asking visitors to remove hats and clothing is not in keeping with our policy or protocols. We provided immediate training to prevent a reoccurence of this kind of incident, and have determined steps to ensure this does not happen again."

A similar case of discrimination occurred last month when a man wearing a "Jesus Saves" shirt was thrown out of the Mall of America in Minnesota.

The MoA is a private entity, not subject to 1st Amendment protections.

The NASM is part of the US government's collection of trust entities, federally funded and more than half federally staffed. The security is provided by a fully federally operated staff overseen by the Parks Service. Therefore, 1st Amendment is in full effect.
