I’m writing a book for Post Hill Press.  The working title is Supermoms; Activated. Interviewing moms throughout the nation of different races, religions, and political party affiliations, observed is a recurring theme; they’re voting for the candidate, not the political party, for which they have little faith, specifically when it comes to education. Regarding a CNN poll, Americans’ “confidence in schools [is] just 28%...a near all time low.”  According to a Gallup poll, a paltry 14% of Republicans have confidence in schools, the lowest since 1973.

Moms’ votes hinge on maintaining parental rights and being viewed as school shareholders.   The government and teachers union better wake up and listen because they’re voting with their feet and creating a tectonic shift, impacting policy and effectuating change.  Proof is Congresswoman Mayra Flores or Governor Glenn Youngkin.

New York City seems to be a glutton for punishment.  Elected are the same people with different faces.  Whether it’s the first black woman of the Supreme Court that doesn’t know what a woman is or the first transgender United States Secretary of Health, pandering to identity groups is an unmitigated disaster. Mayor Adams selected his friend, David Banks, as New York City Schools Chancellor.  Their combined failure is so astounding, parents have galvanized.  School enrollment plummeted during the pandemic.  But Mayor Adams, worse by all metrics than de Blasio (crime, outmigration, homeless population, and prices are all substantially higher), has heard from the schools’ stockholders; there’s been a referendum, they are leaving -and these are the ones that can get out so these numbers don’t tell the full story!

New York City public schools are about to lose another 30,000 students before the new school year starts in September.  Why?  Parents resoundingly reject school closures, mandates, CRT, below grade level proficiency, wokeness, crime and low quality of life due to defunding police, and can no longer justify the low return on investment.  Feckless Adams can identify the problem; “Here’s what’s happening with the Department of Education,...we have a massive hemorrhaging of students — massive hemorrhaging. We’re in a very dangerous place in the number of students that we are dropping.”  He just has zero resolve to fix the problem and no ability or desire to reign in a lunatic City Council seeking to retain funding for school based on old inflated enrollment numbers. Adams is focused on all things hurting the tax base; more affordable housing, going green, beckoning out of staters for abortions, and transgender story hour at public school.

Thanks to the Left forcing tyrannical lockdowns in response to COVID and then allowing BLM to dictate a new type of education, the Left has cannibalized and eaten itself alive.  The kicker; all the destruction was perpetrated by the Left intentionally to undo the Founding Fathers’ commitment to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, freedom, and limited government.  But to the chagrin of radicals, rooted in tried and failed idea after tried and failed idea, it’s the Founding Fathers, rooted in success after success, who have saved the day.

What occurred between March 2020 to present day is a Godsend that but for COVID and BLM, would have likely gone unnoticed.  Parents, for the first time, saw behind the curtain of the education complex in America. Fifty years under the iron vice of Federal invasion instead of local dominion came to a head under the microscope of zoom classes and a teachers union refusing to get back to work, despite pushing to the front of the line to get vaccinated under the pretense of being essential.  No one could have told us better than the teachers union refusing to teach in person how unessential it is.  Whether it’s because there are too many rotten apples or the system is Federalized and a monopoly void of competition, the free marketplace of ideas within public school became an echo chamber of dereliction, indoctrination, and experimentation.

Parents couldn’t believe their eyes.  Overwhelmingly, they hated what was gleaned; admonition of traditions, the nuclear family, parental rights, core curriculum, standards, civility, accountability, grade level proficiency and skills.  The entire purpose of school was replaced, minus parental input, with an ideology void of a track record and empirical efficacy.  Grifters, warping the minds of students, became the standard bearers, usurping credentialed educators. CRT and gender shifting is new to education; “experts” without bonafides and notable success if one considers success defined as learned, well adjusted, and able to do something other than riot.  Schools adopted CRT, focusing on division by race and sexual exploitation of children resulting in a spate of school gangrapes, violence, and malcontents and persons unable to join the workforce.

Thanks to a free market, a solid mechanism is in place combating the Left’s Machiavellian efforts to destroy education once and for all and with it, generations of Americans walking through hallowed learning institutions.  The parents I’m interviewing discuss alternatives that will improve public schools because of competition.  New grade schools and higher learning institutions are cropping up committed to meritocracy, core curriculum, parental involvement, transparency, and an adhered to mission statement.  There’s homeschooling, which doubled since the pandemic; in 2020, 5.4% of American households with school-aged children were homeschooled and by fall 2020, the number increased  to 11.1%.  And other innovative forms of education are evolving; one mom told me about hybrid homeschooling which is an la carte way to pick desired courses from various sources.

Politicians have given up on moms and moms have given up on the politicians. Public officials aren’t going to change the educational system. Moms are.
