New York City is currently lawless. Does it just feel that way because people in today’s society have a penchant for filming everything they see and posting it on YouTube? While that certainly doesn’t help matters, the fact is, the powers that be have made it so that a police presence deters criminals about as much as a litter of newborn kittens. It should be noted that this has nothing to do with the officers themselves and everything to do with the fact that they are petrified of breaking some kind of rule from the ”woke” agenda and ending up sitting across the table from a few members of the Internal Affairs team who have been instructed to do whatever it takes to make the liberal politicians happy.

NYC residents aren’t imagining things, crime is up across the board. Arrests for major felonies are up 25.8% compared to the first 10 months of 2021. In October 2022, there was a 19.3% increase in Grand Larceny Auto compared to last year as well as a 9.6% increase and an 8.9% increase in grand larceny and burglary respectively.  Our current bail laws aren’t helping the situation either. According to the NYCLU, “New York’s bail law currently eliminates money bail for most misdemeanors and nonviolent felonies. Those accused of these crimes are either freed without restrictions while their case plays out or released under certain conditions like electronic monitoring.” Am I saying that everybody who jumps a turnstile should be locked up in a bastille somewhere never to be seen again? Of course not. However, there need to be reasons to not commit crimes. As we speak, criminals are dealing with a police force whose hands are tied behind their back, bail laws that allow them to be arrested and back home before their soup gets cold, and a group of politicians that are very sympathetic towards them.

A weak police force isn’t an option in the smallest town in America. In arguably the most important city in the world, with a population of 8.5 million, it cannot even be a thought. Our police force needs to be feared by criminals but that cannot happen when the liberal politicians who run the city are making decisions that has policemen walking on eggshells in order to “solve” a police brutality problem that never even existed. Yet somehow, the politicians do not see the detriment in creating a situation in which police officers are disregarded, disrespected, and considered a non-entity.

We have all seen the footage on train stations and street corners of old women being beaten by grown men, of vagrants assaulting young women, of innocent men being attacked with no provocation, ending up seriously injured, and in some cases, even dead. The law-abiding citizens of this great city are fed up. They want safety. They want the laws to favor them and them not the criminals putting them in danger. It wasn’t long ago when New York City was considered officially “cleaned up”. Times Square, once one of the seediest places on Earth, had been completely transformed. The bright lights shined down on the huge crowds of people enjoying themselves safely, some of those people including tourists from Oklahoma, Kansas, Ohio, Arkansas, and any other one of the less populated states in the union.

Today, we’re moving backwards. We’re going back to that sense of fear that existed in the 1970’s and 1980’s, the muggings, the Central Park sex crimes, and the like. The NYPD has all the resources in the world, and they need to be allowed to use them, to do their jobs to the best of their abilities, and to keep this city safe. Political pandering can’t take place when it comes to public safety. We can’t be concerned with who views an arrest a certain way or who thinks a police officer is being verbally abusive. Police are there to protect and serve but aren’t being allowed to, they are instead walking their patrols, trying to avoid any situation in which they may have to do something that might be considered politically incorrect or not in line with the “woke” agenda.

We have body cams, we have citizens recording everything (instead of helping, of course), we have a frightening number of cameras taking video and pictures of police constantly. We are covered on watching the police, it’s time to watch the criminals. Police have been sufficiently scared into having to consider unfair laws and an ocean of bureaucracy while doing their jobs. In the meantime, we are losing our city, one depraved act at a time. At this rate, the city will begin to look as it did in 1973 or 1984 or any other year where we legitimately feared for our safety. It is time to move forward. Let us take the cuffs off of the cops and back on the criminals, where they belong.

That will never happen. Policing is by its nature a political act'
