According to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence's Annual Threat Assessment report released Wednesday, Russia, China, Iran and North Korea pose “complex” threats to the United States.

During the next year, “the United States and its allies will confront a complex and pivotal international security environment," the report states

The report continues that “two strategic challenges” are emerging.

First, the competition between “the U.S. and its allies, China, and Russia over what kind of world will emerge makes the next few years critical to determining who and what will shape the narrative perhaps most immediately in the context of Russia’s actions in Ukraine, which threaten to escalate into a broader conflict between Russia and the West,” reads the report.

Second, the report cites the challenges concerning climate change, and human and health security, the post- COVID-19 pandemic, and the economic issues over energy and what the report refers to as “food security,” which is hunger.

China is considered a major threat while Russia remains “a formidable and less predictable challenge to the United States," but its economic and energy leverage is a "declining asset,” according to the report.

Iran and North Korea are regional powers whose threats seek "to exert their influence, often at the cost of neighbors and the world order itself," the report stated.
