Albanian Parliament Unanimously Ratifies North Macedonia’s NATO Accession

The Albanian Parliament unanimously voted to ratify the protocol for North Macedonia’s accession to NATO.

The speaker of the North Macedonia’s parliament, Talat Xhaferri also attended today’s parliamentary session in Albania.

Last week, North Macedonia and NATO signed the accession protocol in Brussels.

Albania became the second of the 29 NATO members to approve its neighbor’s NATO membership. Earlier last week, in a symbolic gesture following the settlement of disputes between the two countries, Greece was the first to ratify the protocol of NATO accession for North Macedonia.

North Macedonia is expected to be the 30th country to join the alliance. The protocol requires the approval by the parliaments of all NATO members. The process is expected to last until the end of this year, or early 2019.
