In an interview with the Financial Times, Alice Weidel,  co-chair of Germany's Alternative for Germany (AfD) Party, the country's leading opposition party, suggested that if Afd assumes power, there is a possibility that Germany will leave the European Union.

Weidel said that Germany could follow Britain's example and make a sovereign decision to leave the EU. She emphasized that her party will first push for reforms in the EU to address the “democratic deficit” in the union and limit the powers of the “unelected executive,” the European Commission. “But if a reform isn’t possible, if we fail to rebuild the sovereignty of the EU member states,” Weidel told the Financial Times, “we should let the people decide, just as Britain did,” she said. “And we could have a referendum on ‘Dexit’ — a German exit from the EU.”

Weidel’s proposal is analogous to Brexit, the process by which Britain left the European Union Germany’s exit from the EU would make its death knell, as France would likely follow suit and the EU would no longer have the economic or political strength to survive.
