Syrian rebel forces are cementing their control of the strategic city of Aleppo, the gateway to Turkey and northern Europe.

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTI) are comprised of Sunni jihadist forces, supported historically by Western intelligence elements against against Russian and Shia influence in the region. Turkey also is behind the Sunni rebel attack, as it works to remove Moscow's influence and ensure security along its border with Syria.

There are also now credible reports of Ukrainian support of the jihadist rebels, especially in the realm of drone warfare, where tactics and equipment have been honed in the Donbass region of East Ukraine.

This morning reports from the region are confirming the Syrian National Army (SNA) is also moving against Assad forces along the Turkish border regions, in a coordinated attack with HTI. Several villages have already been taken by the SNA.

The town of Ma'arrat al-Nu'man south of Idlib is now also under seige by anti-Assad, and anti-Iranian armies. The town is located between Aleppo and Damascus.

Assad family statues are being destroyed in Aleppo.

As Iranian-backed Assad control collapses in Syria, Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad has decided to extend his visit to the Kremlin, and stay in Moscow for the time being; likely he realizes his regime is extremely vulnerable and may fall.

Russia has promised military support for Assad and is mobilizing assets to the region via Hmeimim airbase. Russian airstrikes are targeting anti-Assad forces in Aleppo currently.

The incoming Trump administration is now presented with a different Middle Eastern map. The influence of Iranian proxy forces has quite literally almost disappeared along the Turkish border, although could be regenerated with Russian and Chinese help. This defeat for Iran is striking, coming immediately after the embarrassment and dismemberment of Hezbollah in the south.

The Trump national security team is likely being briefed on developments, if not actively working behind the scenes to shape them.

Israel is likely also assisting the push against Assad, in conjunction with NATO-member Turkey; however, Turkey's border agenda is likely in the forefront for Ankara. There are reports the anti-Assad rebels are vehemently anti-Palestinian.

Israeli journalist are now openly calling for the incoming Trump administration to stay active in the area to shape a new Syria to Tel Aviv's liking.

There are also reports of the Assad regime handing over territory in the southeast to anti-Assad Kurdish forces, in a bid to prevent the area from falling under jihadist control.

The video below shows Assad's forces fleeing from Aleppo towards the south of the country.

The overall situation can be seen as one of the collapse of Iranian, and therefore Russian, influence in northern Syria, and possibly the fall of the Assad regime, a development the Kremlin will go all-in to prevent.

In Moscow, Putin is likely to push for further mobilization and military readiness for the Russian Federation, as the Ukraine and Middle Eastern conflicts merge prior to Trump taking office.
