Denver Mayor Mike Johnston won't fight the congressional call to testify, according to a report from 9News. The admission was buried at the end of the puff piece, where Johnston opined about being "afraid" of the immigration crackdown.

“I'm open to having a productive conversation about what they can do to address federal immigration reform,” Johnston said. “If that's the purpose, if they want to have a substantive conversation about those solutions, I'm open to going.”

“If it's theater for theater’s sake, that’s not a good use of my time or the City of Denver's resources,” Johnston said. Johnston said his team is having a conversation with House Republicans about the “terms of the conversation,” acknowledging that he will have to testify one way or another.

“That's certainly within their power,” Johnston said. “I'm not afraid of having a direct conversation about what they're doing.”

Colorado has been at the center of the immigration debate in recent years, with US Northern Command recently announcing that Buckley Space Force will be used for immigration processing, and President Trump announcing "Operation Aurora" as part of his strategy for deporting violent criminals and making America safe again.

As reported earlier this week, the House Oversight Committee called for Johnston to appear on February 11.
