Monday evening Congress released a proposed stop-gap spending bill that would fund the government until December 16, buying officials time to come up with a more long-term solution to keep the government funded.
In addition to normal government funding, the stop-gap bill includes another $12.3 billion in military and economic aid for Ukraine, which would come as Putin mobilizes hundreds of thousands of reservists and holds sham referendums in an effort to annex four regions of Ukraine.
The bill also includes $3 billion for the State Department to put toward the resettlement of Afghans who fled to the U.S. after the withdrawal from Afghanistan - with $15 million earmarked for the FBI to vet Afghan refugees.
Another $35 million of the stop-gap bill has been allocated to respond to "potential and radiological incidents in Ukraine." A grim reminder of Putin's recent threats of nuclear war.
Congress has until the end of Friday to approve the bill in time to prevent a shutdown of the federal government.
