[Miami,  Florida] I am a staunch believer in Western civilization,  and a supporter of the military alliance that was created in 1949 for its defense:  the North Atlantic Treaty Organization  (Plato to NATO).  Nevertheless,  I have some skepticism about NATO’s support for Ukraine today.  Now that we are here,  we should support Ukraine,  but we should not have gotten here.

In 1994,  after the end of the Cold War with the fall of the Berlin Wall and the dissolution of the Soviet Union,  Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons,  in return for guarantees of its national borders  from,  among others,  the Clinton administration and Russia.  But then when Russia invaded Crimea in 2014,  the Obama administration did nothing.  So why no outrage then,  but all the outrage now?  This failure to keep our word emboldens our adversaries,  betrays our friends,  and contributed to the Russian decision to invade Ukraine last year.

During the last decade or more,  Ukraine has been a den of corruption,  including with the Biden Crime Family.  Vice President Biden himself went to Ukraine and demanded that the prosecutor who was investigating his son Hunter for corruption with energy company Burisma be fired,  or Biden would hold up a billion dollars in so-called aid.  The prosecutor was fired,  and Biden bragged about it at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York City.

Ukrainian President Zelensky has displayed not only courage in the face of the Russian invasion,  but also disregard for civil liberties,  having suspended opposition political parties and media outlets.  Ukraine is apparently also a site for undisclosed bioweapons laboratories,  and Zelensky is an acolyte of the Davos agenda and the Great Reset.  Ukraine is hardly an attractive potential addition to NATO.

Then as soon as President Biden was inaugurated in January 2021,  one of his first moves was to suppress the North American oil & gas industry,  thereby providing a huge stream of cash to fund the Russian war machine.  This suppression represents another betrayal of the defense of Ukraine,  and it continues today.

The shameful retreat from Kabul also emboldened Russia to invade,  as it has emboldened other enemies like China,  Persia and some in Latin America.  This retreat represents yet another  betrayal of the defense of Ukraine.  So far the Biden administration has been slow to provide material support to the Ukrainian defenders,  and Biden at first expected a quick Russian victory.  Now Biden is providing Ukraine with enough support to get us in trouble with Russia,  but not enough for Ukraine to win.

Finally,  the Biden administration,  following policy from prior administrations,  in November  2021 offered Ukraine a path to membership in NATO.  As a member of NATO,  Ukraine would have America’s full guarantee of its national borders,  including with Russia.  This is more than the Biden administration is willing to do for America’s national borders,  and it crossed a red line with the Russian leadership.  Why does Ukraine belong in NATO?  It does not border on the North Atlantic,  and it has never been part of Western civilization that NATO was created to defend.   This offer is a barrier to peace today.

NATO’s victory in the Cold War entitled it to conquer certain countries from Russia,  like East Germany,  Poland  (Solidarnosc),  Czechoslovakia  (1968),  Hungary  (1956),  the Baltic States,  and some others,  but not Ukraine.  The Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic was an integral part of the Soviet Union;  also Ukraine uses the Cyrillic alphabet,  has a substantial Orthodox population,  and was the birthplace of Russian civilization when Prince Vladimir accepted Greek Orthodox Christianity from Constantinople around the year 988.  Russian hegemony in Ukraine dates back to Peter the Great’s victory in the Battle of Poltava during 1709 against a Swedish army.

NATO is a successful government program,  but it does not know when to stop.  It recently built a palatial headquarters in Brussels,  while some of its core members  (like Germany and France)  fail to invest in their defense the agreed two percent of their Gross Domestic Product.

Going further,  why does Crimea belong to Ukraine,  instead of to Russia?  Russia conquered it fair and square from the Ottomans around 1783,  and it was part of Russia until 1954,  when Soviet Prime Minister Krushchev  (himself from Ukraine)  shifted the borders for some reason.  During the Cold War,  the Soviet Union found it useful to pretend that Ukraine and Belorus were independent republics,  so that they would receive additional diplomatic representation at the United Nations and elsewhere.  Why not let Russia have Crimea,  in exchange for evacuating Kaliningrad  (Koenigsburg)?

I do not defend or advocate for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine,  because my own family has been a victim of Russian imperialism,  but NATO should not continue to grow mindlessly like so many other government programs.  Understanding the realities of realpolitik does not mean appeasement of Russian aggression.  Ukraine is of strategic importance to the defense of Poland,  the Balkans and Greece,  but that does not mean that it should be a full member of NATO.  Ukraine should remain a neutral buffer state,  like Finland used to be.

The Ukraine is nothing but corrupt trash milking the American people of our Money with the help of this illegitimate administration. NATO has been turning into a corrupt communist regime by the WEF. There are a few countries that want nothing to do with the Ukraine but depend on NATO, I believe they will start making waves and rightly so. European countries have been being forced into Progressive Leftist ideology by their governments due to the WEF New World Order infiltration. I believe many are waking up to the totalitarian nature that’s engulfed Europe I just hope they don’t wait until it’s too late for them.

Thank you! This is one of the clearest analyses available on the current Russo-Ukrainian conflict; historically informed and a great example of clear strategic thinking. A neutral Ukraine with international guarantees would indeed be the best solution. Such a solution would go a long ways toward stabilizing the current international security system, which has become increasing unstable since the end of the Cold War due to so much unfinished business by the nuclear great powers. Other dangerous conflicts, beyond the current Russo-Ukrainian, will continue to occur (e.g., over Taiwan) until and because of the hazardous instability inherent in the incomplete post-Cold War international security regime (or lack thereof). Needed are new norms and institutions created by the nuclear great powers, similar to those created at Yalta, SanFrancisco, London, and other key post-WWII summits (when not just Finnish but also Swiss *and* Austrian neutrality helped maintain international peace and international security for decades). NATO needs to take a deep breath, understand its own history and strategy, and make up for so much unfinished work!
