Colorado is a Rocky Mountain state and a unique place in the United States. We are not just the cross-roads and flyover country of America, but our state's mountains form the rugged Continental Divide backbone of the USA. Our citizens reflect our ancestors who were native to these lands and others who ranged from the east coast and Europe to span the westward movement to settle our state and beyond. There have been war and struggles while trappers, miners and gold seekers rushed Colorado to try to find their fortune. We went from territory to the Centennial State in 1876. Our National Anthem was born out east in Baltimore, but America The Beautiful was written right here in Colorado because of Kathryn Lee Bates in 1892 as she viewed America from the top of our own Colorado Pike's Peak. We are a unique place and citizenry. Today we range from the northeast farms of Julesburg, to the southeast plains of Campo, to the southwest 4-corners area near Cortez, to the northwest Dinosaur National Monument with the plains to the east and the mountains to the west. Colorado is our home.

We have a unique place in history. Settling and forming Colorado did not happen by circumstance. It was fortitude, work and struggle. Cities, trails, roadways, farms, mines, and resources were all developed to build today's Colorado. We honor those who put their hard work and determination into making Colorado what it is today.

Our nation's forefathers set the stage in our preamble of our US Constitution for a "more perfect union, and included the requirements to seek "justice, tranquility, defense, promote the general welfare", and an obligation to "secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity". Those who have gone before us to establish the nation and bring Colorado to what it is today, must be respected for what they did through hard work and fortitude to follow these concepts and attempt to forge a more perfect union and our great Centennial Colorado State. These actions were not random, but the specific intentions of individuals and communities to do their best to build a better life for all.

God has placed each one of us here on earth for his purpose and each moment. We honor our history and carry the legacy of those who have gone before us in our hearts and our genetics. Each one of us everyday, has the opportunity to reach out to individuals, groups, churches, communities and our state and make a difference. After 9/11/2001, we were all told if you "see something, say something". Should we point to others and say, that's your job to fix it? Absolutely not! We are Americans living our lives in Colorado. Our ancestors would expect each one of us to "say something" and do what they did, get involved and go fix it. We honor those who have gone before us and owe it to ourselves and our posterity to peacefully "form a more perfect (Colorado) union". So it's back to the future. The future is waiting to be defined by our honor of the past and our obligation to ourselves and those who will follow in our footsteps. Make each and every moment count. Lets declare today each one of us will lawfully work hard to "secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity". There is no going back. Liberty awaits, go make it happen in an honorable way!
