Central Michigan is flooded because important US infrastructure, in this case the Edenville hydroelectric dam on Wixom Lake, is old and crumbling. Federal regulators had been raising concerns about the century-old dam since 1999 due to it’s spillway capacity but no action was taken until 2018 when the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission revoked Boyce Hydro’s license to operate the dam.
The federal license revocation put the Edenville dam under state oversight, where the spillway capacity requirement is lower than the federal standard. Michigan law requires high-hazard dams to withstand the equivalent of a 200-year flood. Edenville meets Michigan’s capacity standard, according to federal records, but this is a 500-year flood event. It would be hard to say that Boyce Hydro didn’t envision the imminent danger, but the blind justice of Michigan’s AG couldn’t see the coming storm..
In April, Boyce and the state sued each other in state and federal court over the company’s attempts to lower Wixom Lake, an impoundment reservoir that the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) says is home to endangered freshwater mussels that were killed by drawdowns in 2018 and 2019. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel claimed the 8-foot drawdown was larger than the typical 3-feet and the exposed bottomlands resulted in the “death of thousands, if not millions, of freshwater mussels.”
The dam was breached by rising waters and bad weather flooding the town of Midland, the headquarters of Dow Chemical Co, and forcing over 10,000 people from their homes. The floodwaters mixed with containment ponds at a Dow Chemical Co. plant and could displace sediment from a downstream Superfund site. It could be days before the full scope of damage can be assessed and there is still no word on how the fresh water mussels might have survived the rupture of the Edenville dam.
Michigan’s AG Dana Nessel is one of the 3 “Karen’s” who are using arbitrary power and nagging application of the law to destroy the Wolverine State . The other two are Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson who continue to keep the state closed for business while punishing the citizens with incompetent public sector administration. Like most “New Confederacy” governors Whitmer has been using the Chinavirus pandemic as an excuse to crush the small business economy in coordinated attempt to hurt “deplorable” MAGA supporters of President Trump. Over the past few weeks the AG and Sec. of State have formed a bitch pack in an effort to hound Trump and keep him from winning the 2020 election.
Over a month ago, on April 17, President Trump tweeted out "LIBERATE MICHIGAN!" in a morning call to arms for his supporters and a warning to Blue State governors. Whitmer shut down Michigan by executive order on March 23 and is just now starting to let up on restrictions she imposed on businesses two months ago. The Democrat party establishment in the state is using the Chinavirus shutdown to undermine democracy and steal the 2020 election.
Earlier this week Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, a Democrat, spent $4.5 million to mail absentee ballot applications to all 7.7 million registered voters ahead of the August primary and November general election in Michigan as part of the state’s efforts to confront the coronavirus pandemic. Normally in Michigan, it is up to voters to ask their local clerk for an absentee ballot but in this instance Benson took unilateral action to flood the state with mail in ballots. “This was done illegally and without authorization by a rogue Secretary of State,” Trump tweeted about Michigan. “I will ask to hold up funding to Michigan if they want to go down this Voter Fraud path!”
Yesterday President Trump visited a Ford Motor Co. factory in Michigan which has been repurposed to manufacture ventilators and he didn’t wear a mask when touring the plant. This was an affront to AG Nessel who had warned the President of the United States that ignoring Gov. Whitmer’s executive order on face covering in public places might lead to a ban on Trump’s return to the state. “The president is like a petulant child who refuses to follow the rules,” Nessel said in a Thursday evening appearance on CNN. “This is no joke.”
“He is a ridiculous person, and I am ashamed to have him be president of the United States of America,” Nessel said. “I hope that the voters of Michigan will remember this when November comes. That he didn’t care enough about their safety, he didn’t care about their welfare, he didn’t respect them enough just to engage in the very simple task, the painless task, the easy task of wearing a mask when he was provided one.I hope that we’ll have a new president soon enough who does respect people more than this president does.”
Advantage Trump because he obviously knows how to get under the skin of this bossy “Karen” while her criticism can’t pierce his thick hide. Not so good if you’re unlucky enough to be a “deplorable and irredeemable” Trump voter in Michigan and have some legal issue with the states top law enforcement executive. But when the AG said her office was “going to have to have a very serious conversation with Ford in the event that they permitted the president to be in publicly enclosed places in violation of the order”, the skies darkened. If you want to get on the wrong side of President Trump then threaten American business and prepare for the tweetstorm.
If that’s not a clear enough statement on how the POTUS views the Michigan AG then... 6 minutes later.
Unfortunately for the residents of Midland, MI their AG Nessel is NOT a “do nothing A.G.” because she filed a law suite to keep the Wixom lake full which lead to a woman-made disaster when the dam holding back the water collapsed and flooded a Fortune 100 company (Dow Chemical). Then she insulted the President of her country and threatened penalties on another Fortune 100 company (Ford Motor). Michigan deserves better but the only way to get rid of scolds like Whitmer and Nessel is by voting them out of office and now, thanks to Benson, that process is compromised. Now that the WuFlu plot to cripple the American economy and destroy Donald Trump is being reversed by the state-by-state reopening of the economy, the Democrats have decided to destroy the legitimacy of the democratic process itself. It’s a 200 year event threatening to submerge a “government of the people, by the people, for the people” under a lake of angry estrogen and the good people of Michigan are hoping their dyke can hold together.
