New York Magazine and its Washington D.C. campaign reporter Olivia Nuzzi have parted ways permanently.

The law firm Davis Wright Tremaine, “reached the same conclusion as the magazine’s initial internal review of her published work, finding no inaccuracies nor evidence of bias,” New York Magazine said a statement on its website referring to the investigation of Nuzzi following their revelation that she had an inappropriate relationship with a 2024 presidential candidate she had profiled in November 2023.

Nuzzi’s attorney, Ari Wilkenfeld, released a statement Monday to POLITICO.

Nuzzi was “gratified though not surprised that two different investigations have determined that her reporting on the 2024 campaign was sound and that she did nothing wrong…She looks forward to the next chapter of her career.”

The outcome was inevitable. Although this story has some wild twists and turns, the bottom line is that Nuzzi’s action left New York Magazine with no choice.

From the beginning of this saga New York Magazine had the obvious upper-hand.

Nuzzi’s actions were going to determine this outcome. The magazine’s reputation and credibility and ts staff credibility were on the line.

One source has told CDM that Nuzzi “seems upset,” but she “must be accountable.”

But, the departure hardly puts this story to rest. A court hearing is scheduled for November 19 in D.C. Superior Court.

There, the court will address the protective order that Nuzzi filed on October 1 against her former fiancé Ryan Lizza, who is currently on leave from Politico. Lizza was their Washington-based political reporter.

Nuzzi has accused Lizza of orchestrating a smear campaign against her and allegedly threatening to ruin her reputation and allegedly threatened physical violence.

So, what happened here that we can make sense of so far.

On September 13, Nuzzi was confronted by the magazine’s management about a possible inappropriate relationship she had with a politician she had profiled on the campaign trail on the magazine’s dime.

Initially, it has been reported that she denied any inappropriateness. She was reportedly forewarned to fess up. She allegedly did and was put on leave. NYMagazine released a statement on September 19 that announced Nuzzi was put on leave and an third party would independently investigate the situation. The internal investigation had already occurred.

That story was published by Oliver Darcy who had only recently left CNN, where he reported on the media. He dropped it in his column.

His reporting only went so far as reporting Nuzzi was put on leave. It mentioned nothing about “sexting,” “demure nude” photos, or even who the candidate was.

Darcy has gone public with the fact that he was in touch with CNN. Shortly, thereafter, CNN and New York Times had reported the candidates in question was Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.

    But, there is much more.

    Stay Tuned.
