If you want to know more about Elvis Presley and Richard Nixon, and the unlikely pair's patriotism, this movie is for you. You will come away with a greater perspective on both, and their behind the scenes relationship.
Elvis Presley is known as the "King of Rock & Roll" because he transformed pop culture in America as we knew it. However, even though Elvis was a musical legend, he still believed in a sense of duty to our beloved country, a stark contrast to the many pop stars in today's world.
The movie shows that behind all of Mr. Presley's bling and fame, he was an America-loving, God-fearing country boy at heart.
Mr. Presley was a avid anti-communist who coordinated anti-communist youth groups during the height of the Cold War.
At the apex of his impressive career, Mr. Presley willfully and happily accepted his duty to serve in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a role model for America's youth.
The movie begins by portraying Elvis's eager desire to get involved with The White House’s anti-drug campaigns.
He is quoted by saying “I have done an in-depth study of drug abuse and Communist brainwashing techniques and I am right in the middle of the whole thing where I can and will do the most good,” he writes.
Nixon is portrayed as an old fashioned man who had no care for current affairs or pop culture. In fact, one could say that his presidency was retaliation against the rebellious state of affairs back home.
Although an unlikely matchup, the movie shows these two men had a lot more in common than one would think.
