As ill-reported by the U.S. media - legacy and alternative media - has been calling the Russian and Ukrainian conflict on February 24, 2023 the one-year anniversary when in reality, the conflict began in 2014, Russian, Ukrainian and US leaders are nowhere near diplomatic negotiations although China is calling all parties to the table to end the conflict.
Beijing unveiled its proposals as part of a 12-point plan to end the conflict that would also see the end of Western sanctions on Russia and a number of allowances for humanitarian relief, according to the New York Post.
“All parties should support Russia and Ukraine in working in the same direction and resuming direct dialogue as quickly as possible,” stated the proposal released on China’s Foreign Ministry’s website.
China has indicated its opposition to the use of nuclear weapons and the threat of deploying them.
“Nuclear weapons must not be used and nuclear wars must not be fought. The threat or use of nuclear weapons should be opposed,” stated the Chinese proposal.
Today, President Biden has continued to move even further away from diplomacy.
Biden has called for more sanctions against Russian and once again unilaterally announced another increase of $3 billion to Ukraine even though the Biden Administration remains devoid of any financial oversight of the estimated $100 billion of US taxpayers monies flooded into Ukraine over the last year.
The White House stated Friday that the U.S. will impose sanctions on 200 individuals and entities, which include Russian as well as third-country European, Asian, and Middle Eastern actors that are supporting Russia's war efforts. A dozen Russian financial institutions will also be targeted.
China’s call for diplomatic peace negotiations on the war chessboard follows top Chinese diplomat Wang Yi’s recent visit to Moscow. Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to visit Moscow in the near future.
Russia and Ukraine leaders have been bloviating recently with increased rhetoric. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has vowed to roll tanks into Moscow’s Red Square.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has vowed that Russia would "gain the world's attention" on February 24, 2023.
"Our diplomacy will do everything to ensure that the anti-Russian sabbaths planned for the end of February — as if timed to coincide with the anniversary of the special military operation, both in New York and at other sites that the West is now actively working on together with the Kyiv regime — so that this will not turn out to be the only events that will gain the world's attention," Lavrov said earlier this month.
All the while ten million Ukrainians have fled their homes with no end in sight for serious diplomatic peace negotiation.
What these world leaders’ failures have proven is that there are too many warmongers in the room and not enough skillful peace negotiators willing to step in to end the expansion of this conflict.
It is time for European leaders to push back on Biden, who lacks the imagination and will to end this conflict.
Since early 2023 when President Putin was on calls with European leaders, Putin told world leaders from Finland and France he wanted to hear from Biden.
(Full disclosure: CDMedia has been reporting on this conflict since 2014).
