There is a report of a Western woman in Hong Kong pathetically urging the protesters to stop their rebellion against the repression of the Chinese government.

This woman is expressing concern for the police who might be harmed in these protests and that the freedom protesters are really radicals trying to disrupt Hong Kong society.

What are the facts? First of all, the Chinese tried to implement a policy of extradition for those in Hong Kong charged with certain crimes. This would mean they lose the criminal justice process in Hong Kong and would face ruthless and tyrannical lack of justice in Beijing.

Who in their right mind would opt for alleged peace, knowing that one wrong move would get them placed in the control of the criminal justice system in Beijing, not Hong Kong? That would suppress the energy and vitality that created Hong Kong as the ideal example for economist Milton Friedman as the standard for capitalism internationally.

Now, a woman from the West decides to interfere with the legitimate protest by a population fighting for its freedom. They know full well that surrender to this extradition policy would end the special status of Hong Kong and simply make it another region controlled by the tyrannical dictatorship in Beijing.

Beijing assured the British that when the transfer of Hong Kong from British control to Chinese control, there would be a protection of Hong Kong in the status it held at that time. As we know, China considers promises and assurances as expedient means of resolving an immediate conflict and going back to its totalitarian ways subsequently. Promises are tools for Beijing, not ethical assurances.

China has a true quandary. It knows that Hong Kong and its capitalism create a cash cow for China. On the other hand, the dictators in Beijing are uncomfortable with the political freedom in Hong Kong. They fear that the Chinese mainland will become infected with the notion of freedom and might create an inconvenient protest themselves. They certainly see what the people of Hong Kong are doing in their fight for freedom and China fears that.

The human spirit is alive and well in Hong Kong. The Western woman who has interfered with this magnificent demonstration of a determined protest for freedom should mind her own business.

General John Stark sent a message on July 31, 1809 to an event he was unable to attend due to illness. He was New Hampshire’s most famous Revolutionary War soldier. His message was simple, yet profound:

Live Free or Die. Death is not the worst of evils.

This famous invocation is now memorialized on New Hampshire license plates and is the state motto.

Perhaps the Western woman trying to interfere with freedom protesters in Hong Kong should imprint this Western motto in her mind and leave the people of Hong Kong do the important work they are doing.
