The photo of a young Islamicist extremist attacking a Syriac priest in Australia during a popular live broadcast is now iconic! In fact, had the priest died it might have been the subject of a veritable icon commemorating his martyrdom. The image of the priest holding a crucifix while the Islamicist youth stabs him can be interpreted on myriad levels but is nonetheless applicable to our current Zeitgeist.
Bishop Mari Mari Emmanuel leads an independent Assyrian Catholic congregation in the tradition of The Church of the East (ʿĒḏtā d-Maḏenḥā), Church of Christ the Good Shepherd, in Wakely, New South Wales, Australia. Born in Haditha, Iraq, he was raised in the environment of a Christian family. His broadcasts are viewable on the Facebook page of the congregation and YouTube, while snippets are reposted on TikTok and myriad other social media platforms. He is a vociferous opponent of Islamic fundamentalism, “woke” culture of the moment, and of Australia’s response to the Covid-19 outbreak in that land. At the same time, he is an unashamed proponent of traditional Christian teaching.
Some weeks before the stabbing on April 15, 2024, Bishop Emmanuel had preached a fervent, even prescient sermon on the attacks of the devil. According to the Instagram page of “success-in-Jesus,” the later victim of Islamicist violence exhorted his congregation: “You know, when you ger attacked, I know it’s ugly. I know sometimes it is unbearable. But in a way you have to thank God. You know why, because if you are getting attacked, that means Christ is very close to you, in you, walking alongside you. That is why you are getting on Satan’s nerve. Satan will not attack someone who is lost. Satan will only attack those whom Christ is dwelling in them with mightiness. When you are getting attacked so heavily, thank the Lord; it is a very clear sign that Jesus is with you, and you are making Satan eat Indian hot pepper. So, thank the Lord and say, “Lord, it is very unbearable this trial, but you are with me. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for you are with me. Psalm 23.”
Robert Spencer, April 16, 2024, in Jihad Watch (jihadwatch.org) reports that the young assailant
was a recent convert to Islam and shouted “Allahu Akbar” repeatedly while stabbing Bishop Mari Emmanuel.
It was further witnessed that the victim immediately laid his hands on the attacker’s head and
prayed for him after he had been subdued.

Meanwhile in Hudson, NY on Western Calendar Easter Sunday, another attack, but perpetrator released on a technicality. A parishioner informed that the priest also prayed with the congregation after assailant was taken away. But one wonders, will he RETURN? St. Mary’s suspect released because charge was not bail eligible (timesunion.com)
Bishop Mari Mari Emmanuel is a true Christian walking the narrow path.
