Andrew Torba is the founder and CEO of Gab.com, a free speech social media provider that has been attacked by Silicon Valley and the Leftist media establishment for the simple crime of allowing people to talk freely on his platform.

CDMedia spoke with Andrew recently and here is what he had to say...

    1.  The big tech titans have been after you for some time, what was the hardest hurdle you had to overcome?

In the winter of 2018 Gab was no-platformed from several core infrastructure providers all within the span of a few days. This includes hosting providers, payment processors, and more. Having the rug pulled out from under us by all of these providers at the same time left us off the internet for six days, unable to process card payments for nearly all of 2019, and in really rough shape on the product side. We spent an entire year building out of own infrastructure to eliminate dependency on third-parties and today we are stronger and more resilient because of what we went through.

    2.  What is your vision of the future for Gab?

Gab started out as the Twitter alternative, but now it has evolved into the Silicon Valley alternative. We have a social network, a web browser, a news aggregator, and soon a video conferencing alternative to things like Zoom, Facetime, and Google Hangouts. All of our products work together to accomplish our mission: empower everyone to speak freely online outside of the tyranny of Silicon Valley.

    3.  How does your faith help you in these trials you have experienced?

My faith in Jesus Christ is the only reason Gab is still standing today. Building Gab has brought me closer to Him and set my focus in life on His glory. Christ has never forsaken me throughout any trial in my life, so the trials with Gab were no different. Hebrews 11:1 tells us that faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

    4.  Are there any limits to free speech?

Threats of violence, obscenity, child exploitation, and generally anything against American law is where the line on free speech is drawn.

    5.  Do you think you can compete with Twitter long term?

We already are. Every minute that people spend on Gab is a minute they aren't spending on Twitter. Twitter can have far-left radical crowd, corporate overlord brands, and mainstream media journalists. We're building products for The People.

    6.  Are you getting support from the people?

We've been fully funded by The People for almost four years now. The People are our users, customers, and shareholders.

    7.  How important is alternative media in this age?

Crucial. Which is why alternative media is constantly attacked and disparaged by the mainstream players who want to retain total and complete control over the flow of information.

    8.  What can the average person do to help?

Get on Gab. Tell a friend. Stop using Big Tech products and letting them make money off of your time and data.
