CNN released a statement immediately after Lemon tweeted his opinion about his firing.“Don Lemon’s statement about this morning’s events is inaccurate,” CNN Communications tweeted. “He was offered an opportunity to meet with management but instead released a statement on Twitter.”
CNN host Don Lemon said his agent told him Monday that CNN terminated him.
"After 17 years at CNN I would have thought that someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly. At no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network," Lemon wrote in a statement he posted on Twitter.
His termination after 17 years with the network comes after Variety published an article earlier this month alleging Lemon had a history of issues with his female colleagues.
Lemon joined CNN in 2006 as a correspondent and became a host for CNN Tonight in 2014 before debuting his own primetime show, "Don Lemon Tonight," in 2015.
Lemon was named host of CNN's new morning show "CNN This Morning" last fall alongside veteran anchor and business correspondent Poppy Harlow and the network's former chief White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins.
Tensions have escalated between Lemon and his co-anchors because of Lemon’s remarks while on air.
