As fast as she rose within the ranks of the Conservative party, after only 45 days in office, Liz Truss has announced her resignation as U.K. Prime Minister.
Truss was the last official to meet with Queen Elizabeth before she passed away, and the first prime minister to inform King Charles of her resignation.
Her economic policies and the Conservative party in-fighting did her in under the severe financial situation facing the U.K. and with the escalation of the war between NATO, Ukraine and Russia.
In a notably frank speech at 10 Downing Street, Truss admittance rang true.
"I came into office at a time of great economic and international instability," she said during her resignation speech Thursday in front of 10 Downing Street.
"Given the situation, I cannot deliver the mandates on which I was elected by the Conservative Party," Truss concluded.
The Conservative Party is expected to hold elections within the next week.
Truss will serve under she is replaced as expected by protocol.
