The Turkish government has blamed Sunday's explosion on a busy street in a tourist district of Istanbul on the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), despite no organizations having come forward to officially claim responsibility for the attack that left 6 people dead and 81 injured.
According to The Hill, Turkey's interior minister, "accused the U.S. of being complicit in a recent bombing in the city of Istanbul on Sunday that left at least six people dead and dozens of others injured." The accusations were prompted by an official condolence statement issued by the U.S. Embassy in Ankara. The Interior Minister, Suleyman Soylu, told Turkish state media in a press conference, "I emphasize once again that we do not accept, and reject the condolences of the US Embassy."
Soylu accused the U.S. of being like "a killer being first to show up at a crime scene." An allegation that was made due to the U.S.'s support of Syrian Kurds - a group that makes up the core of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) which have been trained by the U.S. Turkey has long accused the U.S. of aiding "terrorists" due to its support of the SDF.
Turkish officials claim that have a Syrian woman with ties to the PKK in custody for the bombing. However, the PKK has issued a statement denying any involvement in the attack.
Meanwhile, despite Turkey's condemnation of the U.S. Embassy's condolences, White House press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, posted a Tweet stating that the U.S. stands "shoulder-to-shoulder" with Turkey.
