The U.S. State Department on Sunday night urged U.S. citizens to leave Lebanon over an “unpredictable security situation” while accusing Hamas of blocking Americans from fleeing Gaza ahead of an expected Israeli offensive.
That plea was on the heels of ten U.S. Senators going to Israel and holding a press conference with an unwavering stand with Israel and telling Hezbollah and Tehran, “Don’t” even think of taking action.
The CODEL, meaning the congressional delegation, led by U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, travelled to Israel and met with not only Israeli leaders and with families of those taken hostage.
The delegation was told of the atrocities by Hamas and shown evidence of what happened to the civilians, who were tortured, raped, burned, and murdered at the hands of Hamas on Oct. 7.
The U.S. State Department's Bureau of Consular Affairs posted an urgent alert Sunday night to X, formerly known as Twitter, to Americans in Lebanon.
"U.S. citizens who wish to depart Lebanon should leave now, due to the unpredictable security situation," the department tweeted. "There are still commercial flights available, but there is reduced capacity."
It further issued a notice for Americans not to travel to Lebanon.
"The Department of State urges U.S. citizens not to travel to Lebanon," the U.S. Embassy in Lebanon added. "We recommend that U.S. citizens in Lebanon make appropriate arrangements to leave the country; commercial options currently remain available."
"We recommend that U.S. citizens who choose not to depart prepare contingency plans for emergency situations," the embassy said.
“To date, at least, Hamas has blocked them (Americans) from leaving, showing once again its total disregard for civilians of any kind who are stuck in Gaza," Secretary of State Antony Blinken told CBS News.
Blinken urged Israel to allow more humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and justified Israel’s right to defend itself.
"We want to make sure that we have sustained delivery of food, medicine, water, the things that people need," Blinken told CBS. "At the same time, I said something a minute ago that we have to remember. Israel has to do everything it can to make sure this doesn't happen again."
"Freezing things in place where they are now would allow Hamas to remain where it is and to repeat what it's done sometime in the future. No country could accept that," the Secretary stated.
Blinken’s words mirror the ten U.S. Senators’ words in a press conference in Tel Aviv.
Every U.S. senator on the trip was firm in his and her support for Israel taking down Hamas and gave warnings to Hezbollah in Lebanon and Tehran leaders in Iran who have financed Hamas not to interfere in the mission to take down Hamas terrorists once and for all.
“Iran, Hamas, We stand here together to tell you we are unafraid. We stand shoulder to shoulder with Israel” said U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala). “We will take you down,” Britt emphatically and forcefully stated.
That was after she shared emotionally at the press conference that the delegation had been shown evidence and had conversations with families of those taken hostage that children were forced to watch their Mothers raped and parents were forced to witness their children being burned to death.
