The U.S. State Department has announced Tuesday that visa restrictions will be placed on those targeting individuals who undermine “peace, security, or stability in the West Bank,” reads its statement.

It will include those “committing acts of violence or taking other actions,” that “restrict civilians’ access to essential services and basic necessities,” it added, including “immediate family members of such persons.”

“We will continue to seek accountability for all acts of violence against civilians in the West Bank, regardless of the perpetrator or the victim.”

The U.S. is sending a clear message to the Israeli government that Israeli officials and mandates going forward must “protect Palestinian civilians from extremist attacks.”

It is also putting the Palestinian Authority on notice that it “must do more to curb Palestinian attacks against Israelis.”

Playing big brother, the statement reads:

“Both Israel and the Palestinian Authority have the responsibility to uphold stability in the West Bank. Instability in the West Bank both harms the Israeli and Palestinian people and threatens Israel’s national security interests. Those responsible for it must be held accountable.”
