The Syrian Ministry of Defense laboratory complex in Safira is a facility operated by the Scientific Studies and Research Center (SSRC), also known as the Centre D’Etudes et de Recherches Scientifiques (CERS), south of Aleppo.

The facility was responsible for developing unique weapons for use in the Syrian civil war over the last decade, including the 'Inferno' barrel bomb that was deployed multiple times, killing many civilians in the conflict.

This is a site that has been attacked many times by the IDF in recent years.

In this institute there are chemical and biological weapons developments, and also there the inferno barrels thrown by the regime were assembled. This is a real danger, which the West does not understand at all. This means that Islamic organizations will gain access to the development of chemical and biological weapons, reported Israeli journalist Amir Tsarfati, who has ties to Israeli Defense Forces.
