The Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP) has long-held grievances against the Chinese Communist Party writes Sophia Yan of The Telegraph in the UK.
Now the Islamic rebel group, founded out of repression from the CCP, has achieved notoriety fighting alongside rebel groups in Syria against the Assad regime, and has come out on top.
TIP was founded in the 1990s, hails from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and has been based in Syria for the last decade. Since escaping from China, where they faced severe repression, the Uygher militant organization has set up camps in Syria, aligned with HTS and other militant groups, and reportedly now comprises a vast fighting force. They vow to liberate their homeland East Turkistan from the CCP.
The CCP is aware of the group of course, and has requested extradition.
The Syrian rebels have declared they will protect them, as long as they do now launch revolutions elsewhere from Syrian territory.
