Speaker of the House Johnson flip flopped on this topic and now the language to give a short live extension to Section 702 looks like it’s back in the FY 2024 National Defense Authorization Act.

I’ve been in on several debates inside the wire on past extensions and use of Section 702. At this point in time it is being used as justification for large data collection without a warrant. The whole program needs to be cancelled. What is happening is what I’ve seen before. When senior leaders in the Executive and Legislative Branches are briefed, they become intoxicated with the scope, scale, and power of this operation. Whether it’s legal or not gets thrown out the window. 702 along with the 2013 Smith-Mundt Update and the Foreign Influence Task Force are targeting the American People at a breathtaking scope, scale, and velocity. Time to shut this down and have complete transparency and accountability
