Mike Pompeo, keynote speaker at CPAC today, reported that he met with President Trump in the Oval Office this morning. When Trump asked him what he was going to talk about, Pompeo replied, "Foreign policy." Trump said, "That'll be easy."
Pompeo discussed the elimination of terrorists by special forces: "Qasem Soleimani--gone...al Baghdadi, gone. Can we all agree that the world is a better place without them?" He held forth on pro-life strides made by the administration, to robust applause.
Other topics: the recovery of hostages, and Secretary of State travel. Pompeo claimed that he has only been to wealthy European cities twice, and that "One of my predecessors went there 62 times. That's a lot of cocktails, let me tell you," he said to the crowd's laughter. "He even went to Antarctica, I don't know who he was negotiating with there." He contrasted this approach with his: visiting regions of conflict.
He touched on the significance of moving the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem to strong applause.
Recounting his visits to countries around the world, and questions he faces from media about American "meddling," Pompeo said, "They know that America under President Trump means business. They know that America represents a force for good." Chants of "USA! USA!" ensued from the crowd.
