President Trump made a strategic parallel between his opponent, Joe Biden, and the 2016 and 2020 campaigns. In a new video from the Biden campaign, Joe Biden and President Obama make an appearance together for the first time. Many political strategists had been wondering why Biden’s former partner took so long to come out and endorse Biden, especially during what was an uncertain primary for the former VP.
The video showcases Obama and Biden sitting down having a conversation. In the video, Obama says he is confident Biden would handle the virus response better than Trump. Obama said, “You and I had experience dealing with health crises, public health crises, and in each instance what you and I understood, and why I have so much confidence that you're going to be able to deal with COVID in the way that other countries with our kinds of resources are dealing with it right now, which is smartly — I have confidence you're going to actually listen to the experts.”
Trump quickly jumped to a response on Twitter, writing, “Obama, who wouldn’t even endorse Biden until everyone else was out of the primaries (and even then waited a long time!), is now making a commercial of support. Remember, I wouldn’t even be here if it weren’t for them. I wouldn’t be President. They did a terrible job!”
Biden has used the Coronavirus response as one of his main campaign talking points, stating that he would handle the virus better through initiatives like a federal mandate to wear a mask. White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany brought up some of his virus policies on Twitter last night, writing:
“Joe Biden refuses to take questions because he doesn’t want to answer-
Why did you STOP all Swine Flu testing?
Why are children dying in Democrat-run streets?
Why did you bring up Logan Act to use against Michael Flynn?
How are the police “the enemy,” as you said?”
The Trump campaign has used Biden’s stump speech of COVID-19 to point out that he is leading from his basement, where Biden spent the beginning of the lockdown. As the shutdowns and economic effects of such continue to plague the country, COVID-19 continues to be a central issue for both candidates.
