    Trump Suggests Delaying Election

With the election just months away, politicians are reeling with how Americans can safely vote if places are still shutdown.  Democrats are pushing for mail-in voting, but many Republicans, and most importantly President Trump, are worried about potential voter corruption.

President Trump has been tweeting and speaking about this issue for weeks, and today in a tweet, he suggested delaying the election until in-person voting is a concrete possibility in all states.  In his tweet, Trump wrote, “With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history.  It will be a great embarrassment to the USA.  Delay the Election until people can properly, securely, and safely vote???”

Earlier today, he hammered again about mail-in voting, writing, “Mail-In Voting is already proving to be a catastrophic disaster.  Even testing areas are way off.  The Dems talk of foreign influence in voting, but they know that Mail-In Voting is an easy way for foreign countries to enter the race.  Even beyond that, there’s no accurate count!”

Democrats have been promoting mail-in voting, arguing going to the voting booth is a risk to people’s health and will therefore suppress the vote.  But Republicans have noted that while large protests in major cities are encouraged by the left, the argument falls flat.  As the conventions have been canceled, and the future months are up in the air, this has been a serious issue for both sides.

President Trump does not have the power to delay the election, but Congress does.  Back in April, VP Joe Biden said he thought President Trump would try to delay the election, stating, “Mark my words, I think he is going to try to kick back the election somehow, come up with some rationale why it can’t be held.”  The White House is arguing that if the election switches to mail-in voting, there will be a delay for the results, and room for the results to be contested.
