As VP Joe Biden gears up for his nomination acceptance speech to wrap up the week-long virtual Democratic National Convention, Trump’s campaign efforts have been releasing new videos to attack Biden on the issues he claims to be most proud of.  And today, Richard Grenell, made a bold claim about his boss.  In a new campaign video for Log Cabin Republicans, he said “President Trump is the most pro-Gay President in American history. 

Grenell, who served as Trump’s Ambassador to Germany from 2018-2020 and as Acting Director of National Intelligence is the first openly-gay cabinet member.  In his campaign ad, Grenell said that while senator, Biden wouldn’t allow openly-gay individuals couldn’t receive security clearances because they were themselves “security risks.”  Grenell said that being gay ‘didn’t even phase Donald Trump,” but he failed to receive any acknowledgement from Biden about the appointment. Grenell said that Trump has done more for gays and lesbians in three years than Biden did in 40 years, and in fact, worked against their rights.  As a US Senator, Biden supported legislation that was anti-gay, including Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, and the Defense of Marriage Act.  Biden also, until recently, didn’t support same-sex marriage, and Grenell says only now openly accepts it after progress was made.  

Grenell also pointed to President Trump’s efforts to work with other countries that criminalize gay marriage to change their laws.  Grenell also said that those who want to control gay and lesbians try to control the group, to bully them, and to silence them.  In an appeal to his community, he said “gay people don’t have to vote Democrat.”

Meanwhile, Democratic lawmakers and key figures have been attacking President Trump all week, as they focus on race relations, the economy, and the coronavirus.  Sources say President Trump’s campaign is waiting to ramp up their counter-attack until the convention surge is over, but Trump has been quick to point out the hypocrisy of Biden’s message, as he has served for forty years in Washington compared to Trump’s four years, but promises he will be the candidate to fix the nation’s problems.  Pro-Trump pacs, such as Log Cabin Republicans, have been working to expand Trump’s voter base, especially from groups that are considered solidly Democrat.
