As the Trump campaign has been pointing to Joe Biden’s series of gaffes as an example of possible failing health, and President Trump has urged him to take the same cognitive test that he did, the Democrats are trying to use the same formula. But President Trump is quick to put these rumors to bed, and called the accusations fake news.
Heres What Happened: On August 1, Don Author, a crime author, tweeted a video of President Trump giving a speech in December 2017, and said that he received insider information from “whistleblowers” within the White House that the reason he was “slurring his words” was because he had suffered a “series of mini strokes.”
Then on Monday, former Press Secretary for Bill Clinton Joe Lockhart tweeted, “Did @realDonaldTrump have a stroke which he is hiding from the public”?”
And now, New York Times Reporter Michael Schmidt has a new book coming out titled, “Donald Trump v. the United States,” where he writes that in November 2019, Mike Pence was on standby as President Trump was “rushed” to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center because he maybe had to take over the presidency. The book says the White House worried the president would have to have a procedure where he would need to go under, and needed Pence ready to take over the executive office.
In November 2019, the White House said that Trump’s visit to the hospital was for a “quick exam and labs.” Of course, this had the news pundits reeling, which then caused Dr. Sean Conley, his personal physician, to say that the secrecy around the visit was because of “scheduling uncertainties.”
President Trump, however, has been quick to call Schmidt’s latest book fake news, writing on twitter, “It never ends! Now they are trying to say that your favorite President, me, went to Walter Reed Medical Center, having suffered a series of mini-strokes. Never happened to THIS candidate - FAKE NEWS. Perhaps they are referring to another candidate from another Party!”
Why this matters: This is a a part of a series of books written by people who openly dislike Trump, where they talk about “sources in the White House,” but never give names or have concrete proof. Being physically and mentally fit for office is always an important part to any presidential campaign, and is an issue the Biden team is struggling with. In 2016, you may remember when Hillary Clinton had appeared to have fainted and had to be rushed from an event, losing her shoe in the process. That image was a defining moment of her campaign, and sparked rumors she was in poor health.
