The former Democratic candidate for President, Tulsi Gabbard, has issued a statement announcing that she is no longer part of the Democratic Party. While denouncing the Democratic Party, Gabbard did not say whether or not she would be joining the Republican Party.
Instead, she kept her statement focused on why she has chosen to no longer remain a democrat stating, "I can no longer remain in today's Democratic Party that is now under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness, who divide us by racializing every issue and stoke anti-white racism, actively work to undermine our God-given freedoms, are hostile to people of faith and spirituality, demonize the police and protect criminals at the expense of law-abiding Americans, believe in open borders, weaponize the national security state to go after political opponents, and above all, dragging us ever closer to nuclear war."
After naming an extensive list of grievances, Gabbard then went on to state what she does believe in and issued a call to fellow "common sense" Democrats to follow suit and leave the party.
"I believe in a government that is of, by, and for the people. Unfortunately, today's Democratic Party does not. Instead, it stands for a government of, by, and for the powerful elite. I'm calling on my fellow common sense independent-minded Democrats to join me in leaving the Democratic Party. If you can no longer stomach the direction that so-called woke Democratic Party idealogues are taking our country, I invite you to join me," Gabbard said in her statement.
Gabbard's decision to disassociate herself from Democrats does not come as a shock to those familiar with her politics. She has been an outspoken critic of Biden's relentless promises to aid Ukraine totaling more than $50 billion so far. She has accused him of "exploiting this war to strengthen NATO and feed the military-industrial complex."
While some question if Gabbard is posturing to be VP on a possible DeSantis ticket in the 2024 election, she has not confirmed an affiliation with the Republican Party.
