Friday, Saratoga Country Supreme Court Justice, Dianne Freestone, ruled that it is unconstitutional for New York voters to be allowed to continue using Covid-19 as an excuse to vote via absentee ballots. The judge also ordered all local boards of election to discontinue counting any absentee ballots they have already received.

Absentee ballots have been at the center of the debate regarding election fraud and whether or not the 2020 election was stolen. The New York ruling puts the state one step closer towards having fair elections in the future.

While Republicans celebrated the ruling calling it a victory for fair elections, Democrats are already planning to appeal the decision. With the midterms upon us, it will be interesting to see how the ruling affects the New York elections on November 8.
