In what seems like a long overdue U-turn, some Democrats are finally seeing the incompetence of Joe Biden and are urging the Democratic party to back a different candidate in the 2024 presidential election. Progressive group, RootsAction, has gone so far as to launch a campaign titled "Don't Run Joe" on Wednesday with the sole purpose of persuading other Democrats to not make the "tragic mistake" of nominating Biden for a second term in office in the 2024 election.
The Vermont-based group issued a press release Wednesday saying, "The threat of a neofascist GOP has become all too obvious. Bold and inspiring leadership from the Oval Office will be essential. Unfortunately, President Biden has been neither bold nor inspiring. And his prospects for winning re-election appear to be bleak. With so much at stake, making him the Democratic Party's standard-bearer in 2024 would be a tragic mistake.
Despite the budding doubts amid some of his party, Biden has continuously signaled throughout his presidency thus far that he intends to run for re-election in 2024. In fact, the same day the "Don't Run Joe" campaign was announced, Biden told reporters "watch me" when he was asked if he would run for re-election despite exit polls finding that a majority of voters don't want him to run for a second term. Biden also added that the polls would not factor into his decision.
According to a CBS exit poll from Tuesday's midterm elections found that 66 percent of voters do not want Biden to run for re-election. Despite the desire of the people, Biden has made it clear that he intends to speak with the first lady, Jill Biden, over the coming holidays, and then he will announce his decision "early next year."
Biden is the oldest person ever elected to be U.S. president. If he should choose to run for a second term, election day in 2024 would come about 2 weeks before his 82nd birthday.
RootsAction is on to something with their "Don't Run Joe" campaign. Let's just hope that fellow Democrats hear the message and get on board before it's too late.
