Special Prosecutor Now Targeting Trump For January 6th

Former President Donald Trump has announced that Special Prosecutor Jack Smith has targeted him again as a result of Smith’s January 6th criminal investigation.

Trump posted his statement on his Truth Social account.

Smith sent Trump a target letter, to his attorneys, as is customary.

Target letters are sent to individuals to give them the chance to testify before a grand jury after the Department of Justice has determined there is substantial evidence linking potential defendants to a crime.

“Deranged Jack Smith, the prosecutor with Joe Biden’s DOJ, sent a letter (again, it was Sunday night!) stating that I am a TARGET of the January 6th Grand Jury investigation, and giving me a very short 4 days to report to the Grand Jury, which almost always means an Arrest and Indictment,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social site.

Trump wrote that he was given what he called the “horrifying news” on Sunday evening by his lawyers.

“Trump is the only one who has received a target letter so far - Rudy and others have not as of this moment,” a lawyer knowledgeable about the investigation told CDM.

Although Trump is leading in the republican 2024 presidential field, Smith is leading the prosecutorial charges against him.

Smith already has criminally charged Trump with approximately three dozen charges related to document retention at Trump’s Florida residence, Mar-A-Lago.

Trump’s lawyers have asked that any trial in that case occur after the 2024 election. Smith’s prosecutors have opposed that timeline.

Trump is also under criminal investigation in Georgia for his 2022 alleged attempt to reverse his loss to Biden.
