President Joe Biden meets with President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping sometime while they both attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in San Francisco this week.
Just days ago, Governor Gavin Newsom returned from China after meeting with President Xi and encouraged him to attend the summit, as reported in Politico.
Now, Biden and Xi are expected to have a side-meeting for symbolism as Chinese diplomats demand to illustrate a “personal” relationship, however strained it may be at this time.
Biden has publicly stated that Russian Vladimir Putin cannot stay in power. Biden has thrown his weight behind Ukraine.
China has a cozy relationship with Iran and Iran has financially backed and praised Hamas for its attacks inside Israel on Oct. 7. Biden stands with Israel. The Biden administration has removed clearances from senior national security officials for being spies for the Iranian regime.
Outside of foreign policy posturing, more information is being revealed about the president’s son Hunter Biden and his business deals with other Chinese partners via the House Oversight Committee, who is investigating Joe Biden and the Biden family members’ finances within the impeachment inquiry.
Hunter Biden and the president’s brother, Jim, have been subpoenaed for testimony in December. Other family members from Jim’s wife, Sara, to the president’s daughter-in-law Hallie Biden, who was married to his late son, Beau, and who also had an affair with Hunter Biden while still married to his first wife, have been asked to testify, as has Hallie’s sister, who allegedly had some type of a personal relationship with Hunter.
The stated reason for the sidebar meeting between Xi and Biden is to discuss trade, Taiwan and the relations between the two countries, but could expand easily as the world is ablaze and topics are fluid.
Perhaps, there will be more about what is at risk for China with this looming Biden family financial investigation as a result of Biden’s impeachment inquiry that has morphed into a broadening investigation of bank records.
All eyes should be on the messaging emanating from their meeting including, but not limited to the origins of COVID-19.
The last time Biden met with Xi was in Bali during the November 2022 G-20 Summit. Biden had a nearly three-hour meeting with Xi then.
Symbolism and details are everything to Chinese protocol diplomats, which is traditionally a nightmare for protocol secretaries in any administration, especially with President Xi Jinping.
One could expect a separate meeting away from the APEC Summit with Biden to accentuate their so-called personal relationship with a walk or over a meal for a media photo opportunity demonstrating those two have a different relationship than the other summit attendees.
Here’s historically of note with the Xi - Biden relationship.
In early June 2011, Vice-Presidents Xi Jinping and Vice-President Joe Biden met in Rome during a celebratory anniversary on the reunification of Rome and both stated they wanted to advance closer ties between China and the U.S.
At the end of June 2011, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger flew to Beijing and met with then Vice-President Xi and noted that President Barack Obama had hosted then Chinese President Hu Jintao for a state visit earlier that year.
Following Kissinger's trip, Vice-President Biden flew to China and met with then Vice-President Xi Jinping in August 2011.

“For I would suggest that there’s no more important relationship that we need to establish on the part of the United States than a close relationship with China…and I know your ambassador believes -- that foreign policy is more than just formal visits; it’s establishing personal relationships and trust. And it is my fond hope that our personal relationship will continue to grow, as well…” Vice-President Biden stated.
“Let me conclude by saying to you and your colleagues, Mr. Vice President, that I’m absolutely confident that the economic stability of the world rests in no small part on the cooperation between -- between the United States and China. It affects every country from your neighbor to the north, to Argentina in the southern tip of South America. It is the key, in my view, to global economic stability,” Biden further added.
In February 2012, Xi was back in the U.S. when China inked its Hollywood deal. Biden met with Xi in D.C.
Vice-President Xi was a guest of honor at a state luncheon at the U.S. Department of State hosted by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
At that luncheon, Xi was seated between Kissinger and Biden and photographed for the Obama White House archives.
Later, the Bidens hosted a dinner at the Vice-President’s resident at the Naval Observatory, as evidenced in the same archive.
In March 2013, Xi became China’s president for life, but no one realized that at this point in history.
The irony on that is that Biden has barked about Trump challenging the 2020 elections yet Biden is hell-bent to forge ahead with a relationship with Xi, whose vision of the world is broader than Napoleon’s with Xi’s Brick Road Initiative, which he has claimed has been slowed down after the global COVID-19 pandemic.
Nine months later after Xi assumed leadership in December 2013, Vice-President Joe Biden, accompanied by his son, Hunter Biden, met with President Xi in China for a four-hour meeting.
As reported by NBC News in May 2022, one of Hunter Biden’s company’s made nearly $6,000,000 from some Chinese business deals between 2013 - 2018.
“[Hunter] Biden made $5.8 million, more than half his total earnings from 2013 to 2018, from two deals with Chinese business interests. Biden’s most lucrative business relationship was acting as a consultant in a project with a company that belongs to a once-powerful Chinese businessman who is now thought to be detained in his homeland,” reported NBC News.
“According to business records referred to in the Senate report, Hudson West III, a venture funded by the Chinese oil and natural gas company CEFC and its chairman, Ye Jianming, paid $4,790,375.25 to Owasco P.C. over about one year,” NBC added.
In 2015, President Xi was hosted by President Obama at a White House State dinner and Vice-President Joe Biden toasted President Xi at a state luncheon at the U.S. Department of State, which then Secretary of State John Kerry hosted, as evidenced in this photograph.
On the heels of the Trump 2020 election, and right before Donald Trump’s inaugural on January 17, 2017, President Xi Jinping took to the stage at the World Economic Forum and defended globalization.
“It is true that economic globalization has created new problems. But this is no justification to write off economic globalization altogether. Rather we should adapt to and guide globalization, cushion its negative impact, and deliver its benefits to all countries and all nations,” Xi stated.
“Some people blame economic globalization for the chaos in our world. Economic globalization was once viewed as the treasure cave found by Ali Baba in the Arabian nights, but now it has become the Pandora’s Box,” he exclaimed.
“The international financial crisis is another example, it is not an inevitable outcome of economic globalization, rather it is the consequence of the excessive chase of profit by financial capital and a great failure of financial regulation,” the Chinese President further explained as he warned against protectionism.
As he was nearly ending his vice-presidency, Joe Biden showed up at this WEF meeting in Davos, Switzerland also, and “mysteriously met” with Xi, according to Michael McCormick, who was a White House stenographer.
"One of the more suspicious Biden-Xi confabs was held days before Donald Trump was inaugurated president in January 2017 at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Mere days after the Obama administration had reinstated government funding for dangerous gain-of-function research, Xi spoke promoting globalism at the WEF, the first time a Chinese president had ever done so. The Biden-Xi meeting before that speech was off the record and received sparse press scrutiny. Biden’s speech at the WEF was a thinly veiled warning of Trump’s cost-cutting agenda. Obama and Xi were already then collaborating on infectious disease research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. The day after Biden left Davos, Bill Gates introduced a major funding drive for the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), which introduced the technology of DNA/RNA vaccines to the world," said McCormick to CDM exclusively.
