Will Americans care when another shoe drops in September during the Hunter Biden tax trial that the son of the vice-president during the Obama administration was hired to change U.S. foreign policy to line the Biden family’s financial pockets?
Last Wednesday, prosecutor Weiss dropped more documents into the court docket expanding the upcoming evidence in the September California tax case against Hunter Biden.
Hallie Biden, the widow of Beau Biden, received immunity to testify against Hunter Biden in the California trial just like she received immunity for her testimony during Hunter Biden’s June gun trial in Delaware.
Her testimony then was devastating when added to the testimonies of Hunter Biden’s first wife and one of his girlfriends. Nothing was going to save Hunter with the ladies’ testimonies - not even that of Hunter’s own daughter, Naomi, who testified on behalf of her father.
In the end, Hunter was convicted of all three felony charges for lying on a federal gun application in which he denied his use of drugs.
The trial seemed to be a slam-dunk once the Delaware judge allowed the introduction of Hunter’s “Lap Top from Hell” as evidence into that trial during a pre-trial ruling.
Now, the California judge is making pre-trial rulings in Hunter Biden's tax trial that should add to the thunder of truth coming to the courtroom in early September.
Hunter Biden is charged with three felonies and six misdemeanors related to $1.4 million in unpaid taxes on $7 million income payments.
Less than a month away, the light should be brighter on not just how corrupt the Biden family is, but how entangled the Obama administration operatives and Biden family friends were to assist then Vice-President Joe Biden’s deliverances for Hunter Biden’s foreign clients and business associates.
Hunter Biden received money from foreign business partners and clients while his father was vice-president. Those facts have been established. The compensations were voluminous.The bank records collected by the House Oversight and Accountability Committee and Special Prosecutor David Weiss’ team have proven that.
The questions lingering are how close to Joe Biden did Hunter Biden and his associate sail, and how many political operatives from the Obama administration, who are now working for the Biden administration, were also involved?
No one in D.C. lobbies in a vacuum.
If Hunter Biden was so screwed up and on such a drug-fueled high during the Obama administration, where were the elders in the room who should have called for the vice-president to put the brakes on his son’s business ventures, which were creating alleged conflicts of interest and corruptive business practices?
A few spoke up but no one seemed to bring these business practices to a screeching halt while the vice-president continued to engage with Hunter Biden’s business clients - whether they were at Cafe Milano for dinners, or meetings at the White House and the vice-president’s residence.
How deep was Hunter’s lies characterizing the nature of his foreign business ventures to protect his father’s position as vice-president then?
Last Wednesday, Special Prosecutor Weiss filed another pleading in the California court docket that may answer that question, and like Icarus in Greek mythology, this pleading may be the one that melts Hunter Biden's wings.
Hunter Biden “received compensation from a foreign principal who was attempting to influence U.S. policy and public opinion,” wrote the prosecutors.
Hunter Biden called his work real estate management advice for a Romanian business leader.
Presumably, that was a round-about because registering as a lobbyist for a foreign entity while one’s father was vice-president would have been way too over the top even by K Street lobbying standards in the nation's capitol.
In 2015, Romanian real estate tycoon Gabriel Popoviciu faced bribery charges. Popoviciu hired Hunter Biden to ignite the Obama-Biden administration to “investigate the Romanian criminal investigation into Gabriel Popoviciu and thereby cause an end to the investigation of Gabriel Popoviciu in Romania,” states the recent court filings by Special Counsel David Weiss.
That sounds quite similar to what Vice-President Joe Biden was doing in Ukraine - shut down a criminal investigation.
Joe Biden’s vice-presidential portfolio during the Obama administration included not just China and Ukraine, but also Eastern Europe.
Hunter Biden had deals as an adviser to the Ukrainian energy firm Burisma and China Energy Fund Committee (CEFC). Who better to put on the team but the son of the man in the Obama administration who has their portfolio.
The Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) is very explicit. If someone is hired to change U.S. policy toward a foreign government or for a foreign government or entity, the lobbyists are required to register.
In September 2015, then-Vice President Biden welcomed Romanian President Klaus Iohannis to the White House to discuss corruption.
“Vice President welcomed President Iohannis’ focus on anti-corruption efforts and [the] rule of law as a means to strengthen national security and promote greater investment and economic growth,” states a White House readout of the meeting that has been collected by the House Oversight and Accountability Committee.
Within a matter of months, Popoviciu wired Hunter Biden and his associates a little over three million dollars, according to court documents. Those funds were distributed in approximately one-third payments to Hunter Biden, Rob Walker, and James Gillar.
According to the court records, Hunter Biden and his colleagues “were concerned that lobbying work might cause political ramifications for the defendant’s father,” Vice-President Joe Biden.
Hence, Hunter Biden's business documents claimed Popoviciu, referred to as “G.P” in court documents, hired Hunter Biden to provide “management services to real estate prosperities in Romania.”
“That was not actually what G.P. was paying for,” claims Weiss.
Payments began on November 5, 2015, as Popviciu deposited $179,836.86 into a business account. On November 14, Hunter Biden with Romania’s ambassador to the U.S. and, the next day, traveled to Romania. Hunter met with the ambassador again on March 26, 2016.
According to Special Prosecutor Weiss, Hunter Biden “performed almost no work in exchange for the millions of dollars he received from these entities."
In 2017, Popoviciu received a seven-year sentence in his bribery case.
The House Oversight and Accountability Committee has released a plethora of evidence.
“The Romanian transactions show evidence of influence peddling and a correlation between Biden family and their business associates’ work and then Vice President Biden’s responsibilities while in office,” reads the committee’s second memorandum the committee produced on the Biden family’s banking records. “The Biden family and associates’ activities in Romania bear clear indicia of a scheme to peddle influence from 2015 to 2017. While Vice President Biden lectured Romania on corruption and ethics, Hunter Biden received — through Biden associate Rob Walker — over a million dollars from a company controlled by a Romanian individual accused of corruption (Gabriel Popoviciu).”
Among the beneficiaries of those monies then was Hallie Biden, whom House investigators claim received $10,000. Hunter and Hallie Biden were having an affair around this time.
Special Prosecutor Weiss and his prosecutorial team’s court filings state that they reference Hunter Biden’s foreign lobbying as “evidence that the defendant’s actions do not reflect someone with a diminished capacity, given that he agreed to attempt to influence U.S. public policy and receive millions of dollars.”
Perhaps, Special Prosecutor Weiss ought to call former FBI Director Louis Freeh as a witness even though he has been friends with the Biden family for decades. Freeh too was hired by Popoviciu in July 2016 according to his own public relations statement.
“In July 2016, I was retained to conduct an independent review of Mr. Popoviciu's conviction before the Romanian Court of Appeals. I conducted that review with the assistance of a team of experienced former federal prosecutors and former FBI Special Agents, one of whom speaks Romanian fluently,” reads an August 8, 2017 Freeh Group International Solutions LLC.
According to Hunter Biden’s "Laptop From Hell,” Louis Freeh exchanged emails with Hunter Biden during the Obama administration about working with Vice-President Biden and Hunter after Joe Biden left office. Freeh even donated $100,000 to Hallie and Beau Biden’s trust fund for their children following Beau Biden's death, according to emails on Hunter Biden's laptop.
But, perhaps bringing Freeh into the Hunter Biden tax trial would be too close to the sun for any Biden.
