Talking about the Soviet Union is best left in the past tense. Russia is not the Soviet Union in any sense. Russia looks at NATO and wants to know why it still exists... it was formed to protect European and other western countries from the Soviet Union... the Soviet Union ended in 1990. When the end finely came the democracies like the USA di NOTHING to help Russia come about into capitalism, big mistake because from a strategic perspective they don't trust the West... why should they? We should either dissolve NATO or invite Russia and the Ukraine to join as a check against China... which is the real threat.
Russia invades , G/ / NATO will no put boots on the ground but impose sanctions..... big deal. All Russia has to do is turn off the gas and suddenly the EU is short 30%
Simply strategic posturing by Putin to srengthen his hand in negotiations with Biden to not offer Ukraine NATO membership. Did it work? Seriously, we're talking about Biden here. I agree with Remo that NATO has outexisted its original objective and should be reconstructed into the SSTO (Sino-Strategic Treaty Organization).
