ACB Takes Politics Out Of Confirmation Hearing

After a series of swift attacks from the Democrats, who speculated on her decision for the Supreme Court and used the time to attack President Trump, Judge Amy Coney Barrett took politics out of her opening statement.

Barrett took a very measured approach, stating that the law should be as written. She told the Senate Judiciary Committee, "A judge must apply the law as written, not as the judge wishes it were. Sometimes that approach meant reaching results that he did not like. But as he put it in one of his best known opinions, that is what it means to say we have a government of laws, not of men."

Despite their accusations of how she would judge her first Supreme Court Case as a justice on the court, ACB continued, "The policy decisions and value judgments of government must be made by the political branches elected by and accountable to the People. The public should not expect courts to do so, and courts should not try."

Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has been steadfast in his decision to proceed with the nomination process before the election. Senator Harris, who is currently running on the presidential ticket, followed the example of her Democrat colleagues who attacked her on the Affordable Care Act. Harris said, "President Trump and Congressional Republicans repeatedly tried to get rid of the Affordable Care Act... so now they are trying to bypass the will of voters and have the Supreme Court do their dirty work. That’s why President Trump promised to only nominate judges who will get rid of the Affordable Care Act."

But Senate Republicans are keeping in line with ACB’s statement that the law should be written as written, and used the time to attack Democrats for the alleged desire to pack the courts if Harris and Biden win in November. Senator Mike Lee said, "These tactics of creating fear and uncertainty and doubt ... astound me they dismay me and they disappoint me. They reflect the fact that we have allowed for the politicization of the one branch of the federal government that is not political."

Republicans have warned Americans that the Democrats are trying to politicize the highest court in the land.
