President Trump has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize due to his involvement and work to bring peace to the Middle East. And in particular, for the role he played with his administration to normalize Israel’s relationship with the United Arab Emirates in a historic peace deal.

Christian Tybring-Gjedde from the Norwegian Parliament submitted Trump into the process. In an interview with Fox News, the member of parliament said, “he has done more thing to create peace between nations than most other Peace Prize nominees.” Trying-Gjedde is also the Chairman of the Norwegian delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

In the letter, Tybring-Gjedde wrote, "As it is expected other Middle Eastern countries will follow in the footsteps of the UAE, this agreement could be a game changer that will turn the Middle East into a region of cooperation and prosperity.” Tybring-Gjedde also praised the president for his decision to withdraw a large amount of troops from the Middle East.

The businessman turned politician, who is famous for his deal making abilities, has been credited for turning a seemingly impossible situation into a reality. Tybring-Gjedde exalted Trump for bringing countries opposed to one another to the negotiation table, and providing a platform for contact in order to come to an agreement and move towards a path of peace. Tybring-Gjedde said the president had a “key role in facilitating contact between conflicting parties and creating new dynamics other in protracted conflicts, such as the Kashmir border dispute between India and Pakistan, and other conflict between North and South Korea, as well as dealing with the nuclear capabilities of North Korea.”

Because of his work to deescalate the nuclear threat from North Korea, Trump’s name was also thrown around as a possible contender for the Peace Prize in 2018. Eighteen members of Congress, including Marsha Blackburn, signed a letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee to nominate Trump for his work to bring peace to the Korean Peninsula. Tybring-Gjedde said that Trump “has broken a 39-year-old streak of American Presidents either starting a war or brining the United States into an international armed conflict.”

The media has already jumped on Tybring-Gjedde because he is a member of a conservative, populist party. But Tybring-Gjedde told Fox News this nomination has nothing to do with trying to procure favor from President Trump. He said, “I’m not a big Trump supporter. The committee should look at the facts and judge him on the facts, not on the way he behaves sometimes. The people who have received the Peace Prize in recent years have done much less than Donald Trump, For example, Barack Obama did nothing.”

The UAE and Israel will sign the historic accord between the two countries in Washington at the White House on September 15th. The deal will bring “full normalization of relations.” UAE is the third Middle Eastern country to recognize and have diplomatic relations with Israel, joining Egypt and Jordan on the short list.
