As tensions between Iran and the U.S. along with its Western allies rise, a buildup of peculiar military activity has begun in the Hormuz Strait in recent weeks. The British, French, and U.S. navies have launched a joint show of force targeted at the Islamic Republic in the form of sending warships on transits through the narrow Strait of Hormuz.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) which controls military operations in the Middle East released a statement saying, "The U.S. 5th Fleet commander transited the Strait of Hormuz aboard guided-missile destroyer USS Paul Hamilton (DDG 60) with naval counterparts from France and the United Kingdom, May 19."
The increased presence in the region comes after Iran recently seized 2 foreign oil tankers leading the Biden administration to heighten its presence in the Persian Gulf as a deterrent.
Meanwhile, Tehran has accused Washington of seizing its oil exports referring to an April incident in which the U.S. intercepted Iranian crude bound for China.
Iran has consistently reminded the U.S. and its allies that for each Iranian tanker Washington intercepts, Iranian elite commandos will board international tankers passing through the Persian Gulf in what has been referred to as the "tanker wars," according to a report by Zerohedge.
While the U.S. continues to sanction Iran and intercept its tankers, Tehran has been steadily increasing both its trade and military ties with Russia and China - going so far as to recently conduct joint military exercises with the two countries.
