Jeffrey Epstein was a Tier 3 registered sex offender in 2008. That is the worst of the worst of registered sex offenders - meaning the courts and forensic profilers believe those on that tier will repeat sexual crimes, and they were spot-on.
Nevertheless, men and women still flocked to Epstein shamelessly.
One was Reid Hoffman.
Today, Hoffman is bankrolling author E. Jean Carroll's civil rape lawsuit against former President Donald Trump.
Hoffman bankrolls the American Future Republic group, which has given funds to Carroll's attorneys.
The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that billionaire Democratic mega-donor Reid Hoffman, the Founder of LinkedIn, visited Epstein’s private Caribbean island and was scheduled to stay at his infamous New York City townhouse in 2014.
That was six years after Epstein had pleaded guilty to solicitation of a minor for sex in Florida and served time in jail.
The deal at the time was considered to be a “sweetheart deal” while the victims were further violated because they were not informed.
Hoffman and former Massachusetts Institute of Technology official Joi Ito traveled to Epstein's Little St. James in the Caribbean, where Epstein and his associates allegedly trafficked minor girls,
Epstein died in in August 2019 in a New York City jail awaiting trial on federal sex-trafficking charges.
Hoffman said he visited the island for a MIT fundraising trip with Ito, and in retrospect, he now says the trip was a "mistake."
"It gnaws at me that, by lending my association, I helped his reputation, and thus delayed justice for his survivors," Hoffman said. "While I relied on MIT’s endorsement, ultimately I made the mistake."
The document underlying the Wall Street Journal story also exposes other public figures who have visited Epstein's residence, including director Woody Allen and wife Soon-Yi Previn, and former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak.
The paper reports how Epstein and Allen would visit with the artist, Jeff Koons, who has been known to be a benefactor of the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children for years.
But, the opening of the WSJ begins with Lawrence Summers panhandling for his wife’s poetry project in 2014 - well after his first conviction in 2008.
“Lawrence Summers wanted $1 million to fund an online poetry project his wife was developing. The former Treasury secretary and onetime Harvard University president turned to Jeffrey Epstein,” reports the WSJ.
“I need small scale philanthropy advice. My life will be better if i raise $1m for Lisa,” Mr. Summers said in an email to Epstein in April 2014, referring to his wife, Elisa New, a Harvard professor. “Mostly it will go to make it a pbs series and for teacher training. Ideas,” continues the WSJ reporting.
Even the current Central Intelligence Agency Director William Burns met with Epstein on multiple occasions in 2014 when he was Deputy Secretary of State in 2014.
The documents show Noam Chomsky, author, activist and professor, was scheduled to fly with Epstein and have dinner at his NYC residence in 2015.
Leon Botstein, the longtime president of Bard College, met Epstein several times and even invited him to the campus, according to the Journal.
Kathryn Ruemmler, who served as White House Counsel for President Barack Obama, met with Epstein dozens of timesbetween her White House career and subsequent job at Latham & Watkins. Now, she is at Goldman Sachs.
Epstein had planned for Ruemmler to be on two trips with him - a 2015 visit to Paris and a 2017 trip to his Caribbean island, according to WSJ.
