Eleven pro-life activists were indicted by a federal grand jury this week on charges stemming from an incident in March 2021 when the activists blocked the door to an abortion clinic in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, and refused to move.

The DOJ announced on Wednesday that "Chester Gallagher, Heather Idoni, Calvin Zastrow, Coleman Boyd, Caroline Davis, Paul Vaughn, Dennis Green, Eva Edl, Eva Zastrow, James Zastrow, and Paul Place were indicted for federal offenses in connection with an alleged reproductive health care clinic blockade in Mount Juliet, Tennessee, on March 5, 2021"

All 11 activists were charged with a Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act (FACE Act) offense, while 7 demonstrators were also charged with a civil rights conspiracy as well.

The conspiracy defendants could face up to 11 years in prison, 3 years of supervised release, and a maximum fine of $350,000 if convicted. The FACE Act charge alone brings a 1-year prison sentence, 1 year of supervised release, and fines up to $10,000.

The FACE Act prohibits interference of any kind with reproductive healthcare services. Several members of the activist group blocked a patient and an employee from entering the Carafem Clinic in March of last year.
