UPDATE: James Baker intercepted the Twitter Files before they could get to Taibbi and scrubbed references to the FBI, reported Taibbi.
Twitter CEO Elon Musk has fired James Baker, Twitter’s lead attorney, who was also the former FBI’s General Counsel who had pushed the false Russian dossier narrative against Trump.
Baker had a role in the suppression of the Hunter Biden’s laptop story that broke in the New York Post weeks before the November 2020 presidential campaign.
"In light of concerns about Baker's possible role in suppression of information important to the public dialogue, he was exited from Twitter today," Musk wrote in response to a Tweet from alternative journalist Matt Taibbi that included an article on Baker's history with federal investigations.
Baker was one of many federal officials to push the now-discredited Steele Dossier as part of the Trump-Russia collusion hoax.
Musk had given Baker a chance to explain himself, but "[h]is explanation was ...unconvincing."
Musk and Taibbi recently have begun to publicize the "Twitter Files," internal documents and communications outlining the Twitter’s censorship to erase the Hunter Biden “laptop from hell” reporting.
Since last Friday, Taibbi has posted screenshots of email conversations between Twitter executives and political operatives involved in coordinating the deletion of posts about Hunter Biden.
Part of those document dumps were a series of emails, including Baker’s, in which top-level Twitter executives discussed their actions to remove any reports and reactions.
In the released documents, Baker advocated that the firm should assume the information came from hacked materials, but asserted that the platform needed more information to justify its throttling of the article.
